Silvia Inés Romero is a fulltime researcher at Servicio de Hidrografía Naval and Scientist at Instituto Franco-Argentino sobre Estudios de Clima y sus Impactos (CONICET/CNRS), Argentina. Part-time Professor of Oceanography at the Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences Department, University of Buenos Aires and at the School of Marine Sciences, Universidad de la Defensa both in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her main research interests are to deepen knowledge on the variability of the South Western Atlantic and its impacts on the marine ecosystem. The focus is on annual and interannual variability of processes leading to nutrient enrichment in frontal zones and shelf marine ecosystems. Her research is based on the analylsis of space-time dynamics of satellite Chlorophyll-a (one indicator of the health of ecosystems and changes of short and long period) and its relationship to physical properties of water masses and mechanisms that control the dynamics of the mixed layer. Has authored and co-authored 10 peered reviewed publications and a book chapter on the subject. Romero has been the lead PI of four projects. The one in progress is "Evaluation of new indicators to identify possible special areas of conservation and resource management". This project is funded by the School of Marine Sciences, Universidad de la Defensa. The general objective is to provide up-to-date satellite indicators that represent and allow the monitoring of frontal highly productive zones of the Argentine shelf and characterize their interannual variability.
