Transport in São Paulo: Airport - Hotel
Here we give information on how to get from the airport to the Golden Tower Hotel (Deputado Lacerda Street, 148 - Pinheiros), where most of SPSAS-Ocean participants will stay.
There are basically three options to go from the international airport to the Golden Tower Hotel. You can take Public Transport (bus, subway and train lines),a Uber or a taxi.
For public transport, remember that it needs to be paid in cash, so make sure you exchange money before leaving the airport and have small notes available.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Train and Subway
a) From Guarulhos Airport to Fradique Coutinho Metro Station - RECOMMENDED
When arriving at Guarulhos Airport, take the free shuttle bus (leaving every 15 minutes) that is offered to take passengers to the nearest Aeroporto-Guarulhos Station. This bus leaves form specific points on the airport, at Terminal 1, 2-East and 3, as shown in the map bellow. (For more information on GRU Airport, check here)
At the Aeroporto-Guarulhos Station (1), take Line 13 - Jade towards Engenheiro Goulard Station (2). Get off at the final stop, Engenheiro Goulard Station and change to Line 23 - Safira (Sapphire), direction Brás Station. Get off at Brás Station (3) and change to Line 3 - Vermelha (Red), direction Palmeiras-Barra Funda, and disembark at República Station (4). In República station, change to Line 4 - Amarela (Yellow), direction Butantã Station, and get off at Fradique Coutinho Station (5), following the steps above. The map bellow is a simplified map of the Metropolitan Transport Network (see full map here), where the stations mentioned above and the final stations of each line (which indicates the direction of cars) are the only ones named.
The service cost is R$4,00. The subway runs from Monday-Friday 4h40 am to midnight, Saturday-Sunday 4h40 am-1h am. You won’t be allowed into stations after 11h55 pm.

Bus and Subway
a) From Guarulhos Airport to Fradique Coutinho Metro Station
In the arrival hall, follow the signs indicating ‘bus’, this will lead you to the bus terminal (next to the TAM airline buses, near the parking lot). Look for busline “257 – Aeroporto de Guarulhos / Metrô Tatuapé” (it is possible that you will have to wait a little for this bus). This bus will take you to Tatuapé station (or "Metrô Tatuapé"), weekdays, it runs between 5 am and midnight. The bus leaves at every 20 minutes on weekends (every 15 minutes on weekdays), it costs R$6,15 and the trip last about 35 minutes.
At the Tatuapé Station (1), take Line 3 - Vermelha (Red) in the direction of Palmeiras-Barra Funda. Get off at República Station (2) and change to Line 4 - Amarela (Yellow), direction Butantã and get off at Fradique Coutinho station (3). The service cost is R$4,00.

b) From Congonhas Airport to Fradique Coutinho Metro Station - RECOMMENDED
When arriving at Congonhas Airport follow the signs indicationg the taxi boarding plataform. Go to the bus plataform in front of the taxi plataform (where buses from TAM, Gol and Azul Airlines also park) and look for Busline 257 - Metro São Judas (you may have to wait a little). This bus will take you São Judas Station. The price is R$4,00 and the trip last about 35 minutes.
At the São Judas Station (1), take Line 1 - Azul (Blue) towards Tucuruvi Station. Get off at Luz Station (2) and change to Line 4 - Yellow, direction Butantã, and get off at Fradique Coutinho Station (4), following the steps above. The map bellow is a simplified map of the Metropolitan Transport Network (see full map here), where the stations mentioned above and the final stations of each line mentioned in this explanation (which indicates the direction of cars) are the only ones named.
From Fradique Coutinho Station
At the Fradique Coutinho station, exit the metro, go straight to Pinheiros Street towards Antonio Bicudo Street. Then turn right at Antonio Bicudo street and go straight to Deputado Lacerda Franco Street, 148, where the Golden Tower Hotel Stands. Reference point: Hirota Food Express Market on the corner of Teodoro Sampaio Street and Deputado Lacerda Franco Street (See map). The walk to the Hotel is a short one and this trajectory is populated with pubs and restaurants where many people gather, so it is quite safe, even at night. If you are carrying much luggage or do not feel comfortable walking, you can take a taxi/Uber at your own expense. In the map bellow we indicate the taxi stand closer to the exit of Fradique Subway Station.

UBER
If you are carrying a lot of luggage or have difficulties orientating, there is the possibility to take an Uber. For this, make sure that you have the App intalled in your smartphone prior to your coming to Brazil. There is free Wifi access at the arrivals terminal and a specific location for drivers to pick up passengers, well indicated by the company’s signs.
If you have any doubt, go the the information desks of the airport for help.
TAXI
At the São Paulo International Airport you should only take taxis belonging to Guarucoop - the only company that is authorized to offer taxi services at that place. This must be hired directly with the company's stands in the airport and the company do not book in advance since t is a 24h service, which means they always have a taxi available for you.
You pay in advance for your taxi at a stand (as the one in the picture bellow - not to the driver) where you can use credit cards, or pay in US dollars, Euros or Brazilian money. Guarucoop charges a fixed price, depending on the the destination address. From the airport to the Golden Tower Hotel (where most participants are staying), taxi fare is of R$169,98 (US$45). Guarucoop stands are located in the exit gate of Terminal I and II of airport, on the lower floor and arrival sector. They are easily identified. Attendants speak english and they will be able to assist you with your trip and indicate the way to the boarding spots.
