Transport in São Paulo: To SPSAS-Ocean Venue

Here we give information on how to get from the Golden Tower Hotel (Deputado Lacerda Street, 148 - Pinheiros), where most of SPSAS-Ocean participants will stay, to IEA (Institute for Advanced Studies), where SPSAS-Ocean activities will take place. 

SHUTTLE SERVICE

A shuttle service will be offered to registered participants and visitors (using buses) from the Golden Tower Hotel to the school venue, and return.

Buses will leave the Golden Tower ("R. Dep. Lacerda Franco", 148 - Pinheiros, São Paulo) at 7.30 to 7.45AM on Monday 13th and at 8.30 to 8.45AM on the other days of class.

Return to the hotel will be at 8PM, leaving from the Advanced Studies Institute - IEA-USP ("Rua Praça do Relógio" 109 - Cidade Universitária).

 

On the 23th we will have a field trip, so the bus will leave the hotel earlier (7 to 7.15AM).

Participants should be alert to the bus schedule. But in case anyone miss the buses, there are other options to arrive or leave the conference's place: public transportation (subway and bus) or taxis.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

You can arrive at the University City, the campus were SPSAS-Ocean will be held, by subway, train or bus. (For more information for transport in São Paulo check the General Information > section.

Subway

If you decide to take the subway, the nearest subway station is Butantã Station - Line 4 - Yellow., which is 2,3 km far from the  Advanced Studies Institute (IEA-USP). (Check subway lines here). From the Butantã Station you can walk to IEA (following the path shown in the map bellow), take one of the circular lines that serve the Campus (described bellow) or a taxi.

Circular buses

The University campus is served by two circular bus lines that leave from Butantã Subway Station: Line 8012-10 and Line 8022-10. These bus lines cover all the campus, with stops that will leave you close to IEA, at the "Biblioteca Brasiliana" (Brasiliana Library, for Line 9012-10; or Av. Prof. Luciano Gualberto, 315, for Line 8022-10. The circular fares are the same of other buses in São Paulo, R$4,00.

To take the circular buses, after exiting the train in Butantã Station, go up several escalators and exit the metro. Go straight ahead passing another set of escalators and turn left in the corridor after them, following the sings to the "Terminal de Ônibus". Go straight and at the end you will turn left and find another escalator that will lead you to the bus terminal to the left of the exit. Exit the metro building, past the fast-food stalls and look for the sign of the bus stops of the circular lines, with will be on the sidewalk just by the fast-food stalls.

Buses - urban lines that enter in the University City campus

If you want to get to IEA-USP by bus leaving the Golden Tower Hotel, there are two bus lines you can take:

  • 177H-10 - Cidade Universitária

    • Boarding at: Av. Cardeal Arcoverde 2030 (79 m from the Hotel)

    • Deboarding: Biblioteca Brasiliana (210m from the IEA-USP)

  • 701U-10 - Cidade Universitária

    • Boarding at: Av. Cardeal Arcoverde 2030 (79 m from the Hotel)

    • Deboarding: "Praça da Reitoria" (Reitoria Square) (400m from the IEA-USP)

 

​Inside the Univercity City, there is also the transit of these following bus lines:

  • 702U-10: "Terminal Parque D. Pedro II – Cidade Universitária"

  • 7181-10: "Terminal Princesa Isabel – Cidade Universitária"

  • 7411-10: "Pça. da Sé – Cidade Universitária"

  • 809U-10: "Metrô Barra Funda – Cidade Universitária"

  • 7725-10: "Rio Pequeno – Terminal Lapa"

 

Itinerary of travels to and back from the campus, bus stops and schedules of departure of these lines can be checked on the website www.sptrans.com.br (in Portuguese) and also on Google Maps.

TAXI

 

If you need to take taxi, there is a taxi stand close to the hotel, just across the street.  You can consult your hotel clerk desk for more information about taxis nearby and you can also use apps such 99Taxis, EasyTaxi and Uber, whose services are regulated by the São Paulo City Hall (remember to download and register to the app prior to having to use it).

If you need to take a taxi to return to the Hotel from the Venues or to go to anywhere from the University City, you can call for a car from one of the three taxi stands at USP

  • "Praça da Reitoria" (rectory square - close to central administration and to the venue) - tel: 11 3091-3556

  • "Praça dos Bancos" (banks square - close to Faculty of Economy and Administration - FEA) - tel: 11 3091-4488

  • "Hospital Universitário" (University's Hospital) - tel: 11 3091-3536 (works 24/7)
